December ‘08 Challenge

Your challenge for this month is to use one of the journal ideas that I gave in the post below and create a layout from it. Even if you have no pictures for an idea, that’s okay! Sometimes a page of journaling is just what your album needs.  When you have your layout done, show it off on the Monthly Challenge forum!

Christmas Journal Ideas

As the Christmas season is offically in high gear (just under 3 weeks to go, can you believe it?!) I was looking around for some interesting Christmas journalling ideas/prompts.

  • do you have a favorite Christmas song? Why…and/or write out the lyrics and snap some photos that remind you of that song.
  • do you collect a certain decoration? Why do you like it.. or make a list of each one.
  • What funny/insightful/interesting things have your kids said about the season?
  • what is your favorite part of the holiday season?
  • what special traditions do you have… how did they start?
  • what new tradition(s) do you want to start this year?
  • what was your favorite Christmas book as a child or what is your child’s favorite Christmas book?

There is also an online class that I discovered at shimille.com. It already started, but it’s never too late, right?!

If you have any other great ideas, sign up on the forums and leave a tip in the journal section.

Journaling tip: Sept 8

If you are stuck for journaling, here are some quick tips to help you think about what to write.

Ask your subject their thoughts on the period of time.

Use a list method instead of storytelling journaling. You can use bulletpoints (use brads, eyelets, etc for this also), numbers, abc’s.

Write a letter to the subject of the layout.

Use a quote or song lyrics

Think about how you would explain the set of pictures to a friend. Write down what you would say. I am always finding myself explaining a layout differently outloud than what I have journaled.

If you have any other great journaling tips, head over the to forums and leave your tip in the journaling forum
